How the preview measures

A search result cuts text by width, not by character count: a line holds more narrow i’s than wide m’s. The preview adds up each character’s width from Arial’s metrics at the result’s sizes: 20 px for the title and 14 px for the description.

The limits are estimates, checked on 12 Oct 2026. On desktop the title is cut at about 580 px and the description at about 920 px. On mobile the title gets two lines and the description three.

The search engine may still rewrite a title or description if it finds its own more relevant to the query.
